When we look at any business, we commonly put a microscope on our, “bottom line”, as the measurement of our business success. Month after month or year after year, if it’s up and to the right, we don’t flinch. If that number dips, we put a microscope on everything. At the end of the day, this bottom line number could very easily be attributed to areas of the business where we did all the right or wrong things.
Everything in business has an associated cost that can affect your bottom line- everything. It’s the measly paperclip tossed in the trash with the old quotes. It’s the opportunity cost of Bill driving halfway across the state to meet with a prospective client. It’s downtime in your manufacturing plant when your in-line equipment fails for the third time in two days. It’s the new hire who mis-quoted a project and now we are eating a percent of the profits (*hand slowly raises*).
