How Do You Use a Stretch Wrapper?
A stretch wrapper is used to wrap a loaded pallet from top to bottom. It is wrapped with enough force to maintain the integrity of the shipment during transit. This is referred to as the containment force and is dependent on the strength of the stretch film, the number of wraps and the force with which each wrap is applied. The containment force can be judged by hand or with a tool designed for that purpose.
Fully Automatic vs. Semi-Automatic
Stretch Wrappers
If your shipping volume is relatively small, you may be better off with a semi-automatic stretch wrap machine. An employee will be needed to place the products to be wrapped onto a turntable adjacent to the stretch wrapper. The employee will also attach the tail of the stretch wrap to the products. Once that is done, the stretch wrapper will then wrap the products.
Fully Automatic Stretch Wrappers
If you ship a large volume of products, you may find it more cost effective to use fully automatic stretch wrapping systems. With this setup, loaded pallets are delivered to the wrapper by a conveyor system, and the fully automatic stretch wrapper unilaterally performs the wrapping with no assistance from employees. This includes attaching the wrap and trimming the wrap at the end of the operation.
